£500 Prize - Academic year 2011 - 2012
Entry is now open for next Academic year’s Mary Langman Prize. You are warmly invited to submit an essay by the 1st March 2012.
The Pioneer Health Foundation is running an annual prize essay competition for an essay that shows understanding of the hypothesis and findings of the Peckham Experiment and their current relevance.
The theme of the essay is "The Relevance of the Peckham Experiment in the 21st Century". Within the broad context of health, authors are invited to submit essays on any aspect of the Peckham Experiment that interests them particularly. Such aspects include, but are not limited to: health, environment and sustainability; the healthy development of the child, family and community; and the role of nutrition and physical activity in health improvement and wellbeing.
The competition is open to all post-graduates and undergraduates studying at Universities and Higher Education institutions in the United Kingdom.

Essays must be in English and should be not more than 3000 words.

Essays must not have been previously published.

Essays must be entirely the author's own work.

Essays do not need to be technical or include tables, charts and figures.

References should be given.

Authors are expected to communicate original ideas and their own observations both critical and constructive.

This year’s essay competition will be judged by Professor Virginia Berridge (Professor of History, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine); Professor Stuart Hill (Foundation Chair of Social Ecology, University of Western Sydney); and Kate McGeevor (Senior Research Fellow, Policy Studies Institute).

The winning essay will be published on the Pioneer Health Foundation website. By submitting an essay, authors give permission to PHF to circulate their essay to competition judges and, if successful, to publish the essay.
